Submission feedback

The feedback I received was all positive from peers. I didn't receive a lot of feedback but, I was told to consider adding branding towards the bottom of my magazine, such as the month the magazine is published and a company website. I decided myself to add a barcode, and spell check my text in my issue. I added the branding as recommended by my teacher and peers to my Article pages and decided independently to add branding on my table of contents and cover page.

Barcode revision to cover

I made a Barcode for my travel magazine on a website called Barcodesinc.com. I included the retail price I plan to set my magazine at per issue in the Barcode, as well as the magazine name. I decided to add a Barcode to make my magazine as conventional as possible when comparing it to real travel magazines.

How did you Integrate technologies- Software,Hardware and Online in this project?

I used various hardware to complete my magazine. First of all I used a school owned Hp EliteBook Laptop. I used the laptop to conduct research to get a feel how other travel magazines format their magazines conventionally. Online, I used Google images to search for magazine covers, table of contents, and 2 page spreads. I also used the internet to research magazine design, distribution, and marketing, which helped me to understand the process of making a magazine. I primary used the computer to type my blog posts, but also I used the computer to access software including Adobe Premier pro and Photoshop, to build my magazine and put in and edit photos. I typed my blog posts on Google blogger, which is the platform im writing this on. The only other hardware I used was my cell phone which is an I phone 8. I used my phone to take the images that I used I my magazine. I used a feature in the default Camera app, that switched the photos to "higher resolution" to produce better quality photos and used another feature, "live photos", to eliminate blurry photos.

How did your production skills develop throughout this project?
Before I constructed this magazine I had no prior experience, I never assembled a magazine. Also the program I chose to assembly my magazine (Adobe Premier Pro) was unfamiliar to me and I had to learn how to use it. If i ever had to conduct a project in the future I would feel comfortable using Adobe Premier Pro. I also had never written a weekly blog, while completing this project I found just how easy the Google blogger program is to use. While doing this project I had to manage my time with other Aice classes and complete set blog dates. Throughout this project I became familiar how travel magazines are formatted through extensive research since I don't read magazines myself. Studying travel magazines Conde Nast Traveler, National Geographic Traveler, and Travel+leisure, I was able to create a similar format and assemble a magazine that looked good, while reviewing Sarasota Airports features someone traveling to Sarasota might be interested in.

How does your project engage with audiences and how would it be distributed as a real media text?

My magazine would appeal to people over 50 interested in traveling to quiet, serene places. I would distribute my product through a magazine webpage I would create and the choice to purchase individually or a yearly subscription would be available. In addition I would sell my product through Amazon, and try to get my magazine into grocery stores and supermarkets such as: Winn-Dixie, Publix, Walmart, Target, ect. I will create social media platforms for my magazine company, on Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter. My magazine will engage audiences because it will focus on issues that relate to a broad range of individuals in my Target audience of ages 50-70. For example in this issue that I wrote, it discussed mobility of the Sarasota airport such as: if nearby hotels offered transportation from the hotel to airport, If the airport had an area for your pet to be walked, if they offer immovability devices, ect. The article also highlights extra features such as covered parking and walkways, and student featured artwork.

How Does Your Product Use or Challenge Conventions?
How My Magazine Represent Social Groups/Issues?
My magazine uses conventions of the travel genera in its layout. My table of contents has a 30% picture ratio which is standard in other travel magazines. My articles have a 60:40 ratio of text to pictures which follow a general magazine format. The cover picture of my magazine has the sky at the top third of the magazine taken with a wide shot similar to other covers. The text is on the left hand side of the cover and is positioned over the pool in white font. Positioning font over a blue light background such as a body of water is traditional in a magazine. In my article one page has a dominate photo and one page has three small photos neatly arranged at the top. The font in my magazine is justified like a traditional magazine and has a uniformed and professional feel.
My magazine addresses the issues this group may encounter when traveling. In the issue I wrote about The Sarasota-Bradenton Airport I covered issues that you may encounter that you wouldn't encounter at this airport. I found the airport had cover walkways, parking, and an area to walk your dog. A more mature audience reading the magazine would be interested in the airports accessibility. My magazine represents the touristy, wealthy, mature, social group of individuals. It represents them appropriately by covering any quires them may have about the Sarasota airport them may choose to fly with when they vacation to the number one beach in the world, the numerous art galleries, or viewing a theatrics performance in Sarasota's many theaters.

Distribution

            How magazine is traditionally distributed?
  • Magazines are usually produced monthly, or bi-monthly, but having 10 come out a year is a common occurrence.
  • Magazines are generally financed by advertising, by a purchase price, by prepaid subscriptions, or a combination of the three                                                                                                       The 3 main ways magazines generate revenue:
  1. Magazines sold in a print form in a supermarket at a set purchase price
  2. Advertisers pay for ads on digital and print media content.
  3. Prepaid subscriptions located on website can subscribe to have print copies delivered to your house or read digital copy on computer or electronic device
             Curtis Circulation Company
  • Today Curtis is the leader in the magazine distribution market.
  • Distribute to the retailers that sell magazines to consumers.
  • I would choose Curtis for my magazine because they distribute nationally.

Superbowl commercial Ads

Tourism Australia's Crocodile Dundee- Uses celebrity appeal. Danny McBride, who plays the son of Crocodile Dundee, and Paul Hogan who played Dundee make this feel like a convincing movie trailer to a new movie. But we find out this elaborate trailer is actually a fake trailer and an ad for Tourism Australia. The purpose of the ad is for people to travel to Australia. If you look closely Russell Crowe, Chris and Liam Hemsworth, Margot Robbie, Isla Fisher, Ruby Rose, Hugh Jackman, and Luke Bracey are in the ad. The purpose of using this massive celebrity appeal is to attract a wide audience. As a view you probably will recognize one of the celebrity. The Target audience is between ages 30-70 because you need money to travel. The trailer makes you want to go to Australia because withing the trailer It showcases all the stuff to do their.
Every Ad Is A Tide Ad- This Ad is trying to convince views to use tide detergent. The Ad uses celebrity appeal and features David Harbour. In the commercial he is thought to be advertising other classic stereotyped commercials. It teases that the one thing all these commercials have in common is They all feature clean stain free clothes washed with tide. This audience appeals to ages 6-90. Everyone that watch TV will be able to relate to these mocked commercials so it has massive appeal.  By Including actor David Harbour, it appeals to younger audience who watches hit show Stranger things.
DORITOS BLAZE vs. MTN DEW ICE- Peter Dinklage and Morgan Freeman have a lip sync rap battle to a Busta Rhymes song, and Missy Elliot song. The Commercial Pairs the new spicy hot Doritos with the cool Mountain Dew, since the company Pepsi Co owns both.  The Target audience is Ages 13-50. The song choice was for two artists who where popular in the early 2000's so it would appeal to people in their mid 30's who hear the songs in their childhood. Peter Dinklage appeals to older teens and young adults 18-35, who tuned into his show Game of thrones. Morgan Freeman has been in movies since the 90's and still stars in current films. He is in movies of all ratings so appeals to a wide spread audience. People ages 13-70 have seen his films. The company used celebrity appeal covering many generations so everyone can relate to the commercial.

I could incorporate familiar things readers could relate to in my magazine such as distinct landmarks appearing in each issue. Also I could think about target audience, the destination could appeal to older and younger adults so it would be read more wide spread.  For example it could talk about where to relax and get a spa treatment, to appeal to an older audience, and then talk about best bars and nightclubs to appeal to young adults.

Magazine Revisions 1

First and foremost I spiced up the font. I selected a more appropriate magazine font. I also moved up the sub heading below the main title with the sky instead of the building as the background. The Article Titles in front of the swimming pool i changed to have black outlines to enhance visibility. I also added a page number that matched my flatplan.
